engine warning light

Driving down the road when suddenly my check engine light came up. Just bought the car and it wasd safetied, certified and e tested..... any ideas as to why the light would come on?

get a code reader to check out why its on, but if you just bought it and it was certified used car, take it back and let them deal with it

"Certified" has many meanings. At a used car lot it generally means tires hold air at least over night, you can put gas in it and headlights probably work. Now if it came with a warranty then they may be required to fix your problem. Buy a cheap code reader though, older Volvos like to turn that light on for every little thing that goes wrong. Get the code, Google it and read up about it. That will give you a good idea regarding something serious going on or just a leaky vacuum line.

thanks for the response. disconnected the negative battery connector for 10 minutes. came back, reinstalled and voila...light is off. Looking into a code reader as i type....so far, loving the ride.
