FF19 will work even quicker on XP for the download than its famous built-in IE - you will only need to add the FF MEGA plugin to download large files.

BTW, I figured the answer to my question above - it was a Dumb Question, really ...

This o/s astounds me. It has an IP address on the virtual network card that's nowhere near my own network card's IP yet it gets on the 'net and can probably send/receive email. It even wants to update itself.

The VM's NIC is proably set to NAT, so its range will be different, unless you specify otherwise.
If you cant change the RAM directly via the VMware Player gui you can modify it's config file manually. Monitor the utilization in he guest before you bump it up though, it might not need it and all you may end up doing is making your host swap more.

I should probably package VIDA as a portable app sometime. That would be handy......

Watch out, that ting may be connecting to a C&C server in background and then push all your bank login credentials to a rogue net

I'll be sure to have the s/w shutdown while using bank login.

Alternatively, we can have your Bank shutdown while you are working on your car

I don't know if the OS is legit or not in this image, but I would avoid accepting any updates, as it might break something? In VMWare you can even disable the network card completely (right-click on the image in the bottom right corner) and you won't have any more update requests.

For the question about adjusting RAM: you CAN adjust RAM in VMWare player. But you have to shutdown the virtual machine first - you cannot just suspend it. As inside Windows go Start->Power Off. Then edit the settings.

Hope this works out OK! I haven't DLd the image myself yet so these are just observations from using other VMWare images, but I assume they apply...

I installed a trial of AVG and want to protect it rather than ignore it.

Shutting down the network card in VM WAre Player I guess is also an option as its use is only for Vida in my case.

My image broke down during a shutdown and couldn't be recovered, regardless of the amount of restarts of VM Ware and even when using CTRL-ALT-INSERT as recommended. I re-inflated the zip files and created another image tonight.

I replaced the ugly background with a high quality image of a C70 saffron coupe. So far it's working again and looks cool 8)

I can't seem to get the 5th file to download, first 4 went fine and 6 looks likes it's downloading OK. I'm using chrome on my extra clunker of a PC. % just stops after a couple of mins and says Temporary Error, Retrying but never completes.
Tech question, 7zip will unzip and combine all the files into a consolidated image then you start up VMplayer and point it to this image and let it startup? Is this generally what I'm wanting to do? What kind of image is fully expanded and combined , ISO or some VMware file format?

You are correct in all you state. The file format is VMWare Virtual Disc File and there are a lot of them that 7Zip will uncompress into a deep folder structure. If the image fails you will need to use 7 Zip again to create a new fresh image as was my case so don't delete them. If you really can't get the images just tell me which one you can't get and I'd be happy to post it to you on DVD.

Keep trying to get the images. I was trying repeatedly for 2 days to get them all.
