Hold down the brake pedal as you push down on your accelerator pedal and then let go of the brakes. With a '94 turbo you should burn rubber.

I have done that before, but without putting my foot on the break, only while turning though.
I like the fact that when I am doing normal traffic speeds, if i step on it, the tires squawks when turbo is engaged, and then again on the next gear change.
I was reading the manual and it meantioned to depress the gas pedal for a moment, then release, then slam it down hard. Don't understand, just brings the gear up?

My '95 850 wagon is in pretty good condition and it has constant, back pushing acceleration from about 80 km/h right up to and past 200 km/h (I've never tried to make it go any faster).
However, I've never been able to get the front wheels spinning to any noticeable degree on bitumen roads (rips up gravel no worries).
Also, my turbo dial doesn't go very much into the white area either. The Volvo mechanic reckons the turbo seems to be working O.K.
Should all 850 turbos be able to spin the front wheels easily?
I'd just like to know.

There are only two types of car owners - those who own Volvos and those who wish they did.

The OEM turbo gauge on 850's are not very reliable and vary between vehicles. If you really want to know what you're doing, get a separate boost gauge that dials in the actual psi's.

It depends on which 70 Series cars you're comparing with the 850's. As you can see, there are some 70 series cars that are faster (or have more HP anyway) than the 850's. The GLT is has a low pressure turbo only for year '97 for 850's. but for all years the 70 series was produced. Any earlier year than '97, the GLT was a non-turbo/base car. Below is what is/was available in the U.S. (I have no clue about what other countries had):
850's:
There are four different engine variants used in the 850's
Variant 1: 2.4L inline 5 168 SAE net hp, 162 SAE net ft./lbs.

Wow, thanks, that just about sums it up.
I was comparing a S70 GLT to an 855 "turbo"
As I suspected the 854/55 Turbo was not the same output as the GLT, they got engine variant 3 w/ 220 hp while the s70 GLT got 190.
Somebody was saying their stock 855 ran under 7, 0-60 and I knew the GLT wasn't even close to that: 30 horses explains the discrepency

i've always felt that the 222hp number quoted for '97 HPT's like mine was low. that's just my opinion, no evidence save that of having driven other cars -- knowing their weight/hp -- to measure against my 850.
