gauge cluster issues

Post by anthony23 »

My fiances 98 c70 2.3 is having a odd issue with the gauges they will work fine for about twenty minutes and then they die, the digital information at the bottom of the cluster and lights will still function but speed, tach, temp, and oil pressure all die this happens both when the abs and traction off lights are on or off we have resoldered the abs module and also replaced the module. She has sunk a ton of time and money into this car any advice or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Jiggle the key in the ignition switch. I believe you have a bad electrical portion of the switch.

OK, I forgot to mention the gauges only resume working after the car has sat overnight or thru my shift at work 8-11hours. I have jiggled the key near violently and its had no affect whatsoever.

I have a similar dash cluster problem on my 1999 V70 T5

About once a month the speedo falls to zero, I get an idiot light or two come on, but tach, fuel and temp gauges all work

I've mapped tach speed to car speed in 4 and 5th gear to avoid tickets

Problem never last more than about 20 minutes before it resolves.

If it's that bad, the ignition switch contacts may be fried almost entirely once it warms up. I'd still try replacing that part. The ABS/TRACS lights alone are a definite indicator it's bad.

Thanks...the ABS light always comes on when the speedo goes dead. 145k on the clock, 15 years old, so I will try the electrical part of the switch as suggested.

Ignition switch problems usually come with other issues with electrical problems like windows not working, turn signals not working, etc. There is a chance that you failed to fix the ABS module properly. Also, I had cluster problems and they were related to a bad wire on the harness that connects the cluster.

I have both repaired the abs module and replaced it. I also have a problem where the windows don't roll down,
