It is possible to update the VIN data plate?

Post by DragosGD »

I have bigger brake discs, new OHLINS shock absorbers (front/rear) and a new interior trim code. So I want to update some of these codes on my VIN data plate. Possible?

In my research I found:
SMB89-005-2011-12-15 -VIN Plate Replacement Ordering Procedure (I do not know the content!!!!)
and
8683904 - VIN plate part number.

I ask because I went to VOLVO of Dallas and they said NO.
Thank you guys,
Dragos.

Not possible. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure it's illegal in every state.

Ditto. To allow such things would open the door to make vehicles worth more by falsifying equipment codes that are hard to verify but add value like sport suspension and such. Not necessarily on Volvos.

Perhaps I was not clear enough.
Guys, I'm not doing this operation in my own garage. Should be a procedure done by VOLVO and after an inspection, nothing illegal, just adjustments on "Product Plate" not on the VIN number!!
Thanks for the response.
