Hey, my other euro brand wasn't in the poll.
So, I'll post it here.
Triumph!
73 Spitfire.
Had this one (one of many) for about 10 years.
She's still my main squeeze.
:)

You guys own some beautiful cars, I must say.

My "other European" was not in the poll either, but here it is anyway:

It's a German built Ford Capri, modified quite a bit under the hood, but body mostly stock. It has a 2.8 V6 mated to a manual 5-speed. At about 2300lbs it's super quick and fun to drive :D

I love those Capris, just not the power plants in them- good for you with the update! The 1.8s are dreadful. Any issues with rust?

Hi there.

Need to clarify.

What you probably remember are the Mercury Capris from the seventies. By the way, there was never such a thing as a 1.8, they were 2.6 or 2.8 V6. These were all built by Ford in Germany and shipped over to the US and sold via Mercury dealers. Due to at the time already pretty strict emission laws these were choked with emission equipment, compression lowered etc., and the result was a pathetic 109hp.
Not so the cars for the European market, which is what I own. Over there they were labeled as a Ford for starters, but when sales ended here in 1977 with the MKII, a face lift version ( MKIII ) came out over there that carried on until 1985 in Germany, and until 1987 in England. That's the car you are looking at, these were never sold in the US, I brought it over myself.
The engine is totally non stock, but if it was it had 135hp, in it's current form, it has around 145hp. Also non stock is the 5-speed. That, combined with a 2300lbs curb weight equals serious fun. Plus, it's 2" lower, has yellow Koni's, etc. :D

The car only saw 2 or 3 winters before it was only driven in summers. I bought it in 1986 and then started restoring it in the late nineties. I was lucky, the rust issues were minimal.

Where do I start?

I currently own a few Mercedes, Mostly D jet W116 S class but I also have a C107 350SLC and a W124 230TE Wagon so you can see I'm a sucker for punishment.

As England is now also a part of Europe i am happy to add my Range Rover Classics to the fray as well although one is currently under restoration and while im on English cars I have a 1974 LS Mini on the slab waiting for me to fire up the Mig and fix some tinworm.

I'm not mentioning my Aussie Chrysler Valiants as they are not a Euro car by any definition even though there are 3 of them but my TDIC Mondeo was made in Belgium so that obviously counts.

Regards,

Tony
