How do I replace my rearview mirror on my 98 V70

I have a 1998 V70 XC and the rearview mirror broke off in my hand the other day. I bought a cheesy replacement mirror at Auto Zone only to have it not stay on the glass and would not stay in position so that I can see behind me.

I purchased another mirror on Ebay that came out of another 98 V70. When it arrives I need to know how to take the arm of the old mirror out and how to put the new/used one in. I know that panel with the lights comes off but am not sure how to do it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a great mechanic BUT I live 75 miles away so if this is something "even a girl could fix" I would like to do it myself rather than drive 150 miles round trip to fix this. HOWEVER, if there is some technical reason I should have a pro do the work, please advise. I don't want to do anything that messes up my car. I happen to really love my volvo.

Remove the lenses for the little lights on the ceiling panel. There is one little screw behind each; remove them. Now that whole plastic panel will pop off, and you'll see the two mounting bolts that need to be unscrewed to remove the mirror mount. Definitely girlable.

I would add that the lenses pop off with a little pressure applied to the edge facing the rear of the car. Use a small screwdriver and 'push' towards the front of the car as you dig (a little) and pry them off. When removing the two little torque screws that hold the housing to the ceiling keep a hand or bowl underneath so you don't drop them. When these are removed the plastic panel will stay in place until you pry it off the ceiling. The whole plastic panel comes off--again with pressure applied to the edge facing the rear of the car. Push toward the front of the car and pry off. There are two pressure springs there that hold it on. When removing the larger torque screws that hold on the mirror mount they are retained within the unit even when unscrewed. So no need to 'catch' the with an open hand. It's an easy take-apart and re-assemble if you have the torque screw-driver handy with multiple sizes.
