s80, replaced shift solenoids - still having issues!

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

s80, replaced shift solenoids - still having issues!

Post by raminator01 »

So i decided to replace my shift solenoids because it was to the point where I couldn't drive it any more. I bought the kit the had 2 shift solenoids, pressure manifold, and 2 other solenoids (lock-up and pcm/ecm). I did the install, took it for a drive, and ITS STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. It shifts fine from 1 to 2, but 2-3 it won't switch over unless I back off, but then I try to get back on it and it down shifts to 2, and revs like crazy while also slipping or missing the gear.
I already had the latest trans update, I did that just to be sure it was the shift solenoid and not something computer related. But now I am stuck thinking it might be in the computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else it could be? Also I replaced the filter about 3-4k miles ago. Another thing I didnt try was running the Seafoam through it. I've heard positive results from this, I wanted to run it through but the trans got too bad before I had the chance, plus you are only suppose to run it for about 3-400 miles and I didn't know when I had time to tear it apart.

Also....I have been having issues with the dreaded ABS module. I resoldered the power connector points and it was fine for a while. Then went back again. I bought one off Ebay that was apparently fixed, installed, worked for about a day then started getting message again.
I'm not sure if or how, but I saw someone saying the ABS problem could be linked to the TCM. So that would be a good possiblity if my TCM is crap, which could be causing the trans problem and ABS problem.
So I just take it to the dealer again? I would have thought that last time I had it there they would have figured that out. Or they just went with the obvious, the codes.

Oh and here is another little issue. If I'm giving it hell and the rpm's are reving up and then I let off completely just before it shifts, it will occassionally freeze the computer. I will lose all power, but it will continue to idle with no throttle response.
What a lovely machine....lord help me. lol

Sorry to hear of your tranny issue. Was having the same problem just before we had our transmission rebuilt. No more transmission problem with replacement.
