2000 V70 with 165k miles no power during take off

Post by Dolly »

I have a 2000 V70 with about 165,000 miles on it. I have been having trouble with my battery (I'm assuming it's this due to a corrosion on the cable)) and often had to have it jump started recently.

Lately, once it started the overdrive light (it's a orange arrow) stays on and flashes. when I try to take off it revs to over 4000 rpm's and does not have much power, going about 5 miles and hour. It seems when the car hits 2nd gear it runs normal.

I tried taking off in a lower gear and it seems to have more power and the rpm's arent reving do high.

Do you think this is a battery issue also, or could it be a transmission thing now?

The later model cars, like your 2000, need good stable DC voltage for the electronics to work well

Jump starting your car all the time is also not a good idea...I once took out two ignition coils from a jump start which was a 120 USD event plus pain and suffering.

Get your battery issue fixed first, then we can work on the rest

Check cables for corrosion by checking for voltage drop across them and also check voltage at idle across the battery. It should be over 13.5 if the alternator is healthy.

If this is a nonturbo you'll have Volvo's first version of the 5 speed auto (AW55-50SN)
Does it have number 4 behind the D on the gear lever selector?

It is a Turbo, and it does not have a 4. I am getting a new battery today, so I will go form there. Than you
