4 Channels or 6 Channels?
So I have an SC-816 stereo in my 1998 V70. I've heard that this system has 4 channels and I've heard that there are 6 channels. My question is this...if I replace my radio with an aftermarket system and appropriate wiring harness how does the new 4 channel aftermarket stereo and wiring harness deal with and operate with the Volvo 6 channel system?
I understand that it is plug and play, but my question is what channels on the new system are running which speakers? Is each of the new channels running a door and separate tweeter on each channel? Because wiring diagrams elsewhere on this site show the speakers wired differently and thus ending up with 6 channels.
There are 6 channels from the factory; the front dash tweeters, the front door speakers, and the two speakers on the rear deck. The harness you get will wire the dash tweeters and door speakers together so those 4 speakers are really only 2 channels, and the back 2 are the other 2 channels.
Excellent. That's what I wanted to know. Now to take this a step further...since the system is now incorporating the front door and dash on the same channel together, is it now running them in series and cutting the ohm load accordingly?
