Aftermarket Amplifier install Location suggestions

Hi, I just purchased a 400 watt amp and I was wondering where I should mount the amplifier. Does anyone have any suggestions or success stories?

I do use my trunk quite a bit so I was thinking I would mount this in one of the left rear part of my trunk. Bad idea?

Should I put some wood vertically in that space in the trunk to mount the amp to? 1997 Volvo 850 sedan.

This will be hooked up to an aftermarket JVC head unit. My 6X9s in the back aren't getting enough power. I'm sure 400 watts is overkill but it allows some expansion in the future.
