07 xc90 newbie questions
I am the third owner of an 07 xc90 3.2 awd 89,000 miles. I have a couple questions, first there is a small oil leak coming from around the vacuum pump, the dealer want's to replace the whole pump rather than an o-ring, anybody had an experience in this department? Second question is I was reading somewhere about the procedure to disconnect the battery and reconnecting it in an 03-04 xc90, quite the procedure! It also spoke of a radio anti - theft number you must get , from somewhere before disconnecting. Is this still necessary ? Other than these couple of items, AWSOME car!!! Any pointers to keeping my self headed in the right direction would be appreciated!!!!! THANK-YOU!!!!

I had a 2003 xc90 and had to replace the vacuum pump, it was fairly straight-forward to do.
I also have a 2007 xc90 which has recently been leaking oil and the culprit is the vacuum pump accordingly to the dealer. In the 07 the vacuum pump is attached to the engine (http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/showA ... bly=239952)
Dealer is asking for ~400 for the part and you can get it used and certified life-time warranty from erievovo.com for ~$75.
I'm still looking for a howto on how to replace it on the 07 XC90

Thanks for the reply. I took off enough to clean the pump up a little , but can't tell if the o-ring or the pump is leaking. The pump is only held on by two bolts . Just don't want to spend 400.00 when an 8.00 o-ring is the problem. Used in this situation just doesn't make sense, Mine only had 89,000 and went bad how can they lifetime warranty? Thanks again!
If the part goes bad, they'll send you a new one. http://www.erievolvo.com/About-us/
I don't have the correct size socket wrench to get off the second bolt. What did you do to get the last bolt off?

Guys, I have exact the same issue. I have 08 XC90 3.2L 6 Cylinder and leakage around vacuum pump. They sure do want to change all together. However, I consulted several technicians nationwide and few of them assured me that this is O-ring causing this leakage. In fact if car's brakes system functioning normal and no noise coming out of pump why wouldn't I start from $8.00 before I jump to $450.00.
Also, I talked to sevice manager where this problem was discovered and he admitted that in the earliest days they would change O-ring only but in favor of some legal issues (see to cover their behind)
they started replaceing all unit.
