98 S90 Check engine light replacement/repair

I just bought another '98 S90. Seems to be in very good shape, runs well...however when I took it to emissions I failed and one reason was that the "check engine" light wasn't coming on even though there was a fail code in the computer (P0455). A friend suggested that they took the light out or it had been on so long it burnt out. Either way, how do I repair/replace it. I've never taken the dash off & don't know if you can get to it from behind without removing it. I've not seen this problem anywhere else so any help is greatly appreciated.
