Locked Radio Question

Post by volvo noob »

The radio in my car is locked. I have seen the various threads about how to unlock it. I know how to unlock it I am just having a hard time with leaving it on for 3 hours without the engine running. The battery always goes dead before 3 hours time is up. So my question is this. How does the radio know if the engine is running or not? Is it just a wire that has a ground signal on it if the engine is running or something like that? Is there any way to make the radio think that the engine is not running even if it is?

The key doesn't need to be in Pos II at all. The engine also doesn't need to be running. You just need to have the key in Pos I for the 2 hr period then put in the code.
