ABS Plug wiring 98 V-70

Post by Kel »

Hello, my ABS plug had a meltdown which I see has happened to others as well. I got a new (salvage yard) plug and rebuilt module and am splicing in the new plug. All wires colors match just fine, although there are two larger red wires and two larger black. I assume they are both hot and ground wires. Does it matter which way they go? the red wires on car are both red, the ones on the plug are red and red with a black stripe. My first thought is that that it really shouldn't matter, but I sure don't want any more electrical fires!
Thanks, Kelly

The Red wire and the Red/Black wire are both battery voltage supplies but they come from different fuses. The large black wires should be the motor wires If I understand your post correctly and they are polarized. One is positive and the other is negative. There is really no risk of fire if they are backwards but with the pump running backwards it may or may not actually work. It depends on the design of the actual pump itself.

Thanks, guess I'll hold off on shrink wrap until i see it working. Wierd that the original wiring they are both red. How can anyone know what is the correct connection? Couldn't find a wiring diagram for this. Not sure it would help anyway with the wires being identical. BTW, I hate electrical stuff.

We used to have all of the schematics here but Volvo legal put an end to that. In the meantime try this link:
