2001 V70 T5 engine surge no codes...hmmm

Post by tuna1977 »

Hello all. Having an issue with surging idle with my 2001 V70 T5. Car seems to run rather flawless aside from the idle being sloppy.

I have no codes what so ever. No cel on or anything. The ETM that is currently on the car is a newer yellow tag.

I used the XEMODEX ETM diagnostic chart and everything checks out OK according to my interpretation of the chart.
http://www.xemodex.com/technologyimprov ... 0Chart.pdf

Im thinking either mass airflow sensor or possibly alternator causing the surging. Ive checked all the vacuum lines and tried spraying carb cleaner around to see if i can get any fluctuations in rpm and i got nothing.

Id appreciate any and all input on suggestions of things i should check.

Thanks for taking the time to read and i look forward to being a member here.

Im reading more and more and im leaning toward the PCV system being clogged up. Hopefully ill have some decent weather to allow me to check it out

Does your cruise control still come on? If so, pcv sounds right. I've similar issues but no cruise, which happened before, when my accel pedal sensor didn't report a signal via the etm. Otherwise, my etm still checks out ok. I probably have a different issue.

I've read on other forums, that if you put a balloon on the dipstick tube, if the PCV system is blocked on a Turbo engine, it will inflate the balloon (and create vacuum on a non-turbo). I measured the pressure at the dipstick tube with a balloon and one of those mightyvac gauges and it had nothing either way. It didn't inflate the balloon but didn't create a vacuum either. For me, I'm probably going to replace the plugs and fuel filter.

I replaced my fuel filter, plugs and air filter and it still runs badly. Another oddity is that my cruise control won't turn on unless I sit and run the RPMs at 3.5k for a while and the shut off and turn the car back on.

Considering xemodex and a MAF I guess.
