Value of a high mileage 2000 S70

Post by dl3250 »

I have a naturally aspirated 2000 S70 that I'm getting ready to sell. It has 360,000 miles on it but it runs and drives great. The body still looks pretty nice too. I was just wondering what would be a reasonable asking price. I was told by the previous owner that the tranny has about 150k on it and the motor closer to 200k.

If it helps I paid $1300 for mine. 187k na manual five speed. Dealt with a few small issues and put about $450 into it to get it reliable.

4-$500 (maybe)
It just has too many miles to have a value

Maybe I would be better off parting it out. It would be a shame the way it drives though.

What's the technical condition, is there a safety inspection required in your jurisdiction for change of ownership or in time intervals, would it pass? If it's roadworthy & easy to be registered & driven it should be worth around $1000, if there's time intervals for safety it's around $500 per 1/2 year remaining to next inspection.

If it can't easily be put back on the road, it's got parts/scrap value only, not sure what current scrap prices are, haven't been to the mill in a few weeks since we hauled our main scrap customer empty for the high prices, Gerdau in Selkirk/MB was paying $195 per S/T for cars & I still see lots of scrap moving, so the car should be around $300 in scrap, road legal wheels trade from $80/set, starter, alternator & P/S pump are quick & easy to remove & worth money.

In the end you need to know how much hazzle you want to deal with for how much or little money, if there's a steel mill within 1hr don't give it away below $300, some tow truck operator will haul it to the mill & get his money back & make a little profit of the easy to strip parts.

The catalytic converter should also be worth 80-100 at a reputable scrap yard. I just got 100 for one off the daughters jetta that crapped out.

Its roadworthy, I just took it for an hour and a half drive. I'm in Michigan, where you can drive a car until it literally falls apart on the road, so no inspections. It really drives like its got 100k on it.

Well, shine it up nicely & take pretty pics in & out, list it for the price you think it should be worth & keep dropping the price till it's worth more parting out yourself.

Good luck!

I just sold mine (98 N.A.) and it had 418K on it. It was in great condition and looked it. I advertised it with pics in craigslist. I had a couple of lowball offers, but a couple good ones too. I wound up selling it for $1,400 and I think it was a fair price.

Wow these cars have higher value than I would pay. I honestly think the next car I buy will be new, used values are so inflated IMO.

Good for the sellers though :).
