P1672 code with CEL, runs well

Post by V70Newbie »

Hi all,
2000 V70 SE, NA, 173,000 miles. Just got this car for a steal and so far have solved most of the issues with it. One last problem is the CEL comes on and my OBD2 reader shows a P1672 code. While searching on here, and googling in general, I can find 2 completely different definitions of that code: either low 5V or faulty signal on the "camshaft reset valve". The car runs just fine, no stumbling, skipping or driveability problems. It may be coincidental, but both times the CEL lit up I was on a very rough road. I checked the camshaft solenoid connection, unplugged and re-plugged, seems fine, and no oil in the cover or timing belt area. Any ideas on where to look or what to look for?

Thanks,
Mike

Try clearing the code and seeing if it reappears first!

Same exact car, it is the cvvt solenoid..
replace with new or known good unit.

Make sure oil passages are clear and use a new gasket.

Make sure your oil is clean and a good filter. It runs off oil pressure too.

I picked two out if the local pic a part for $40, one was good one was not. But it took care of my cel light and got me about 3-4 more mpg on the highway. Going on about 6k miles after replaced.

Try a local pic a part and get the gasket at a local dealer or online. The part new is not cheap.

Good luck!

Thanks.
I was hoping for something simple, i.e.cheap, but this IS a Volvo after all :-) . After looking at the usual places ($200+) I think I'll take your route and try a used one.

Its simple but yep not cheap to get a new one.. it will run fine while your getting the solenoid. But I couldn't stand that damn check engine light.....

Hi guys,
I have been crazy busy the last couple weeks and haven't been on here, but my new (used) CVVT solenoid came yesterday and the gasket got here today, so it is now installed and I cleared the CEL. Wish me luck :)

OK, it's been several days and about 200 miles since the new CVVT solenoid and no CEL. Previously it would throw codes within 30 miles or so. I am assuming my problem is solved :)
Thanks for the help!

The car should be a bit peppier and idle a bit smoother.
