January 15, 2013,
Borrowing a friends heated garage again, I finished my brake upgrade.
This cosisted of new OEM Brembo rotors (all four) Akebono Ceramic pads (all as well), new front calipers and braided stainless front lines.

I have one new rear caliper as well, but was halted by a frozen steel line.

I personally don't like red calipers, but I do not like rust either. So I clear coated the calipers.

I have a stockpile of parts ready to go in soon, including Wheel hubs, New Sachs struts, Rear bumper brackets, Front fog lights and a few nick- nacks like Genuine 850 floor mats. (The mats go in after the winter is done here.)

Oh, I now have another cool impact wrench. It is a 3/8" Blue-Point, folding cordless.

I had mentioned I had done much for driveability earlier. It was 12-17-12, I had recieved my ,at the time, favorite tool.

Bosch 1/2" cordless impact wrench.
IMG_2043.JPG
I was able to do a spring seat and all four rotors and Akebono ceramic pads in the same day.

It was a productive day.

I replaced the front O2 sensor yesterday 3-21-13.
IMG_2178.JPG
I knew something was just not correct somewhere. After a year of driving, and improving all systems involved, I had been overlooking a critical part.

All the inconsistency issues make perfect sense now. The engine has been operating in what I now know to be an "open loop" mode due to a failed O2 sensor. Happily, all the previously mentioned upgrades, modifications and maintenance procedures are now behaving as they were intended to.

When the warm weather comes there are some parts ready to go in. This time last year it was over 80 degrees. Right now it is 20.

I've been working on the new wagon for the last couple weeks but gave the sedan some attention with the rear mud flaps that have been waiting patiently to be installed.

IPD had these on clearance, not surprising as they only fit the Alter I '93 - '94.5.
They were reasonably priced, and I figured I could just remove them if I didn't like them. they have only been on a few hours, so I'll see if they grow on me. I think it gives a respectable look.

The Sedan hasn't been getting as much attention as It used to. The Turbo Wagon has become the daily driver but after a recent trip to the pick and pull. I had finally found another white 850 with no body damage.
The hood on the Sedan is the one in the accident photos. I had only bent it back into a functional state where from a distance doesn't look bad. I picked a hood and a fender, which will go on the wagon. the wagons hood will finally replace the Sedan hood from the collision.

Both cars got some attention Yesterday. While doing an oil change, and a trans drain and fill, I gave both cars a low tone horn replacement. It seems strange that both cars were in need. The monotone high noted horn by itself just gets no respect. Not very intimidating.
IMG_2581.JPG
I would like to replace the front subframe possibly. The subframe was tweaked by the original owner from running over a rock or something. The accident I was in was no good for it either. The bushings are hurt, and I would like to run through the rack seals as well.

The point of impact was directly to the unibody frame rail at the point where the subframe bushing is located.
IMG_1159.JPG
While I am at that I will probably take care of the Rear main seal at last. Since I am not counting on the Sedan to be my daily driver anymore, I can take my time with it.

So as pictured above in this thread, I had found a '95 Turbo sedan nearly complete at the parts yard. After thinking, I went back to get the rear bumper which is in great condition ($40.).
Although the nice '93 bumper and mud flaps I had recently put on look great, the side molding line from '94.5 and later is taller and does not match the top of the '93 rear bumper and you can tell something is not quite right.

I had bought bumper brackets at the time I thought my Sedan bumper was sagging. They turned out to be for the newer bumpers. I kept them for just such an occasion.
It is nice to not have to paint. Grab parts when you can. I can always change back.

It looks like the Sedan will get its makeover before winter. The wagon will get rear brakes and a new heater fan.

Updates to come. Tomorrow if nice weather.

Plans had changed. The ECC issue I was having with the wagon has made the Sedan the winter daily driver.

We are in the midst of another large winter storm here in Michigan today. January set a record in Michigan for the most snow in a single month in recorded history.

The Sedan has been a trooper. Dependably starting at temperatures of -17F.

I am looking forward to warmer weather, there are new parts for both cars waiting.

The Turbo Wagon will go back to daily driver status Tomorrow. Its air conditioning and ECC unit are functional.
I may get to the rear bumper upgrade now. However there is a new member of the family in need of attention.

Between the last two days the '93 had some attention.

Last winter I had noticed the heat was slacking a bit, although the needle stayed at 3 o'clock.

Changed thermostat with OEM whaler 90 degree and Valeo OEM CTS.

Ran it in the drive for full heat up until the fan would start. All seems well.
Also replaced windshield/roof trim with '98 S70 for the gutter as I had already done to the Wagon.

This guy hung out with me today, as well as a cool type of Grasshopper I had not seen in years.

I had done the same treatment to these trim pieces. Cleaning with rubbing alcohol, and utilizing a trim restoration product. I endorse none.
