Well, I've had a love-hate relationship with my 2002 V70 xc since I've owned it. Spent some money on maintenance (luckily, mostly self-performed). I've made it through some ridiculous snow storms going to/from snowboard trips. I've been surfing and camping as well. It's time for tires among a few other costly maintenance items...
I had debated trading it in for a small SUV when I realized that it would basically be the same thing other than a slight ground clearance deficit and lack of low-range 4wd. For what I'm doing, I thing the V70 with some AT's (or at least tougher than stock tires) would be awesome. I love the ride of the car, good tunes, and comfort/amenities. This will be gravel road/forest service road driving. I want a tougher tire because I've had blowouts before on my Accord doing the same type of thing. Plus a tougher look to the car might add some more love to that love/hate thing!
How big of AT's could I get on the stock 16" wheels without rubbing or other mods needed? Any other concerns? I'm not worried about road noise or rougher ride - my other car is a 3/4 ton Dodge Ram. Just looking to save some fuel on my trips that might require some off-road, but are mostly long on-road driving.
New tire size? AT's?
