740 gl arousing my interest

Hello volvoers,

I have seen a 1990 Volvo 740 gl with stick shift. Price : US $1,250. A/C system does not work, however all the parts find themselves present on the vehicle.Some pics:



What should I check for this vehicle regarding maintenance and does this model use a belt driven or chain driven engine?

Do the rims come from Volvo or from the aftermarket?

Hi Ein,

I bought a 91 740 GL, same color, it didn't run when I purchased it, changed the fuel pump and it runs now. Then I had some sort of transmission problem, it didn't shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, changed the solenoid and fixed the problem, (I actually bought the IPD's cheap solution for this repair, the actual part was 100 bucks, and this plate type of solenoid was 45 bucks), after these two problems car runs fine. Later on I changed the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, drained the tranny 2 times and changed the oil, these models run forever. I forgot to say, changed the ac-alternator belts, these models have timing belt in the front, but didn't change that. I have an AC problem too, actually I am not sure if it works or not, need to convert it first to charge and see if it really works, not sure how to convert it though, i asked that question in this forum but didn't get a good answer so it is on hold now...
