Volvo v70 xc radio problems.

I have a 1999 volvo v70 cross country wagon, and whatever I do the radio always have off on the display screen, and will not let me type the code in. Any help will be great thanks.

How did it get to OFF?
Did you replace the battery?

To get it to say CODE you must leave the key on for a bit over 2 hours, then it will return to saying CODE, right now it's locked up.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT CODE

If you enter the incorrect code more than twice, it will go to OFF and lock back up again

I just bought the car yesterday, and the radio was locked when I got it.

Well
As I said the first thing to do is leave the key on for 2 hours (or drive it for 2 hours) and DON'T TURN THE IGNITION OFF
Then the radio will display "CODE"
Look in the glovebox or in the owners manual for a small "radio card" with a 4 letter code.
Owners can write that number anywhere, so start looking
If you can't find it DO NOT START PUNCHING IN NUMBERS because the 3rd attempt entering a wrong code it will lock up again (anti-theft) and you will have to go thru this all over again....

Often, people will write the code on top of the radio.
Push in the two vertical bars on each side of the face of
the radio just enough that the pop out to become handles.
Now you can slide the radio out and have a look at the top.

Since the radio only has 6 numbered buttons, the code
will consist of 4 digits using those numbers (1-6).

Like Jim said, you will have to turn on the radio and
keep the ignition on for two hours to get the radio to
change from "OFF" to "CODE". 3 strikes and it goes back.

Hi...new member...I have a v70 2000 wagon with the code problem....had to replace battery so needed code to turn on radio...was told it was 6124 but is not working. I couldn't find it in manual or on radio. It looks like original radio too...any suggestions..was I given the wrong code?

You will need to slide the radio out and copy all of the numbers from the label and then work with your dealership to get the proper code. A picture of the label is probably even better. You might get lucky and the correct code will be written on the radio chassis with a Sharpie, that is how most of us do it.

The folks at the parts counter should look the code up for you free of charge.

Just had to do this with my 98XC as it returned from the dealer with radio on OFF. I have a trickle charger, so I left it on I not II position, for the required 2 hours (as per handbook) with the trickle charger connected. As Lee says, with your VIN# Volvo parts or service should be able to check the radio code 4 digits if it is the original, or find the code from the radio serial number as he says and others have said.
