You are right, for the most part, I don't buy used electrical part.

However, I just want a HL switch as a spare, so I bought a very good HL switch on ebay for $15.
Received it, tested it fine and keep it in the glovebox ONLY for emergency.

Many years ago, my 98 V70 HL switch broke after 2 years in service, it was a dark night, had to wait until the morning to drive the car home! So I learned the lesson.

Nothing wrong with used electrical parts, as long as the purpose (for spare) is clear.

Well argued.

Excellent proof, that opinions are like piles - every (deleted) has one sooner or later. (Thats a dig on mine, not yours...)

Thank you for all your help! I got a new switch and had it installed in two minutes. What a relief to save $1150 compared to what the dealer told me. Looks like some glue will fix the old one so I'll have a spare, too.

I used to fix my HL switch with plumbing glue (the glue plumbers put in the PVC pipe).
But with the car getting older, there are quite a few used HL switches on ebay for $15.
