weird behaviour of signal lights

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

weird behaviour of signal lights

Post by mickeyk »

Hello,

I would appreciate advice.

Exterior signal lights right/left/front/rear are functioning correctly in each situation, signaling left/right/all 4 together .. but -
the dashboard [green] indicators' arrows and the audible-sound [the tic-tac sound when one is turning right/left..], sometimes works and sometimes not.
Sometimes the arrows works without the tic-tac sound, and vice-versa [sound is on, arrorws does-not blink..]

I had checked fuses, looks to me ok.
I disembled the panel, and checked the small indicators bulbs that in the rear, both are ok.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
Mickey-K.

Sounds like an ignition switch issue. Jiggle the key when they're not working and see if they start working again.

If that doesn't do it, the turn signal relay is contained in the hazard switch.

My stirring console goes dead after a while, no turn signals, no radio or cruise control. To fix I go to the fuse box on the drivers side and pull out the 5amp in location 21, put it back in and I am good to go for another 2 months. Another electrical quick from Volvo.

There is a software upgrade that addressed steering wheel module issues that lead to SWM shut down. Volvo dealers can install the software. If your dealer is good then they may install that free with some other paid work.

The flashing of turn signals on network cars is done differently. The flashing is resident in the CEM and REM with the DIM (inst cluster) having a noise maker for the clicking that clicks in concert with the green indicators blinking. DIM issues internally or with power supply, ground, or the harness connector can cause your troubles. When the clicking and flashing is not occurring does the tachometer, speedometer, etc still work in cluster?
