Have your daughter call "The Car Emporium" in Warwick RI and have them check it out. They are good. Also Dalzell Brothers in Foxborough MA on rt1, just south of Gillette. (not the Boston Dalzell). They are good too and quite through.

The Dalzell in Dedham isn't perfect but worked with us during the tranny flare issue on our 2003 .
Yes that was 2005 so I hope they are as conscientious today as they were back then.

To the original poster, my 2004 V70 2.5t does the exact same thing you are experiencing. It started this year when it was hitting 100+deg here in Dallas,TX. It's usually in the middle of the day. It starts without fail, first a clicking sound like a relay under the left side of steering wheel. Then the "rear left door open" warning on dash and overhead lights come and then all the others like you mentioned and then goes dark and limp mode home. Luckily I've been close to home when this happens after work.

I'll try to check al connections and ECM first and go from there.

I took it to my local shop and he claims its a shorted alarm module. I disconnected the alarm module and problem persisted today.

Hopefully its an easy fix,I hate driving around on hot days with the feeling my car is going to go into limp at any moment.

To tonyg1260, we just bought a s80, first hot day we had the same problem, did you ever find a cure?

I noticed similar problem with my v70 today. No DIM, dead gauges, no turn signals no communication with OBD2 reader. It happened on a hot day. I drove back home and let it sit outside for a few hours and nothing has changed. I decided to reset power to CEM by pulling out 10A fuse for a minute. After inserting it back, life came back to my car. I can read gauges, engine is running normally, but DIM displays: SRS, time for regular service and engine service required. I am sure this problem resurface again when hot weather returns. Has anybody found solution for it? I hate going to Volvo dealer.

I also have a similar problem with a 2004 V70. This happens on hot days. The car makes clicking sounds left of and under the dashboard. First it shows message "left rear door open" (with door totally shut). Subsequently when there are more clicking sounds all the electrics go on limp mode. This means no gauges, turn signals, power locks, radio, etc., and the auto transmission only operates one forward gear. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes clears up the error mode, but the problem eventually returns when there is another hot day. Has anybody found the ultimate cause/source of this problem ? Any other suggestions ?

I read a few different forums during the winter months. I came across one that was relating this issue to the elec throttle body being either super dirty or one where the butterfly plate was misaligning and sticking with the heat due to metal expansion.(Random sounding, I know.)

So I thought it wouldn't hurt to clean thoroughly the throttle body and replace the gasket this spring. So far its hitting 90's in North Texas and have not had any issues w limp mode during the hottest part of the day.

I'm hoping this will fix this issue. I'll keep you guys posted!

Mandomex1: Thanks for the information above. Is the solution that you found (the throttle body) still working ? I am curious if with days as you have had recently in Texas of temperatures of around 100+ it continues to work. Please let us know.

I dont think the electronic throttle body is a likely cause of either of the above. Bad ground, battery cables, ignition switch would be my prime candidates.

I really think that the problem was with CEM. My Volvo was working flawlessly in the cold or mild weather, and the problem only surfaced on hot days. Before it happened I heard clicking noises under the left side of the steering column.I suspected that CEM was overheateing and going crazy. I pulled it out, checked for rust, water sings in the wire harness and terminals and installed as big as possible heatsink on the big Motorola chip to keep this piece of electronics cooler. It is working so far. I drove 600 miles in about 90+ temperature weather, and those symptoms have not yet returned.
