1999 S70 T5 Tune-up - Spark Plugs
1999 S70 T5 Tune-up - Spark Plugs
This is a pretty dumb question, but what spark plugs should be installed in a 1999 S70 Turbo 5? In the owner's manual it specifies a Champion RC8PYP spark plug, but according to the Champion representative, that spark plug is only available in European and Champion said to use RC12PYP. No big deal except that the 8 and 12 refer to a heat measurement and the 12's will burn hotter than the 8's which makes me nervous about installing them. Furthermore, I have read articles saying that platinum is not recommended for a turbo engine, but the Volvo recommended RC8PYP are platinum? Any help, ideas or shared experiences with spark plugs in turbo engines would be appreciated.

Nothing evokes so much opinion, yet means so little in the end, as spark plug debate. I've read Bosch-or-die, I've read Follow-the-owners-manual-or-die, and I've even read a guy who swears by NKG, which are usually recommended for Japanese cars. Yet somehow all of their cars ran ok.
Me, I use Bosch -- I think. It's been about 2 years since I put them in, so I need to replace mine now that you mention it. I'm going to revisit this debate with you
.
I can't remember my rationale behind my Bosch (non-plats I think) decision. I'll do some research in the next week or so and get back to ya.
