2001 V70 - Sunroof, Maplights & Alarm Not Working

Post by rennspeed »

My car is a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 With a 5 Speed Manual - 103,XXX Miles (On a side note it is for sale)

Before posting I did a great deal of due diligence (Which included searching the archives) If I missed an obvious fix I apologize in advance for cluttering up the forum with another Non Operable - Sunroof, Over Head Map Lights, Sunroof, Key-less Entry post.

These Items are currently not functioning: Sunroof, Sunroof Control Panel Lights, Key-less Entry System.

There is no communication with the Sunroof Module Or The (UEM) Upper Electronic Module. (They do not have power)

I have checked (or at least I think I have verified) that every fuse that corresponds to the above mentioned items are not blown.

Now for my question. Is it possible that the Alarm Siren Module is causing all these problems? (Blocking Power to the UEM / Sunroof Module)

How can I make sure it is not a faulty UEM or Sunroof Module? I only ask because I want to make an informed decision before I start throwing $ CASH $ at this problem.

Is there a thread that documents replacing the Alarm Siren Module?

Thank you in advance for all of your help, advice and patience. Again, if I have just asked a question that has been covered Ad nauseam I truly apologize for missing it.

Regards,

RS in Portland, Oregon

Probably alarm.
Volvo has software to bypass this and it's cheaper than buying a new alarm and module

@ DGM Thank you very much!

@ JRL, could you elaborate on the software bypass?

ie If I were to call my local dealership is there a name for this bypass? Can anyone with access to Vita implement this fix?

Sorry for 20 questions. I just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row prior to making a service appointment. For me there is nothing more frustrating then going on a wild goose chase at the dealership..... so if I know what to ask for by name it would be very helpful.

Thank you again for all of your help.

Hi all,

I have same question: How can I make sure it is not a faulty UEM or Alarm Module?

In my case I have no messages for the UEM, alarm or anything else. The sunroof, map lights, alarm and door locks do not work. I did do the seat belt check to see if the seat belt reminder worked when I started the car without my seat belt fastened - no reminder bell or light. This indicates to me the UEM is bad, but not entirely sure since the alarm is tied into the system.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Denys

You could remove the fuse #38 in the passenger compartment (left of steering wheel). This will isolate the alarm siren module. Lock/unlock your car 3 times to reset. If the sunroof, map lights and door locks resume operation then you know what to do.

DGM - Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and still nothing! I'm taking it to a local mechanic, who only works on Volvos, to see what codes he finds. I suspect it's the alarm siren module. I'll provide an update later this week.

Thanks again, Denys

Update: I found a mirror from a 2001 V70 with a working sunroof. (The UCM "Upper Control Module" is inside the Mirror).

Plugged it in and everything functions as it should (with the exception of the keyless entry system (Alarm) because the chip the controls this is located on the UCM)

After 4 or so cold starts the sunroof stops working. My guess is that it needs to be properly coded to the car.

So my question is has anyone here successfully RE-Coded a used UCM? (Mirror) If so how did you do it?

Some garage scanners can do this such as Autologic that hasn't been recently updated (long story)

Otherwise back to the dealer as a unlicensed version of Vida cannot software download.
