Transmission Leak - Dripping!

Bought the O-ring from the dealer for $5.38 and installed the new one in maybe ten minutes (only on account of being too lazy to jack it up for access).

Much simpler than I'd expected. I'll post an update tomorrow to let you know whether it was simply a fatigued O-ring

Is that orange sealer stock or did someone mate something with Tang mango Jello (tm) ?

I had part of the transmission rebuilt when the starter chewed up the fly wheel a few years back.

Because of the catastrophic costs involved and my budget at the time, I had a farm mechanic do the work for me. He is good, but he is not what you would call, the type of mechanic that insists on all OEM parts

But the good news, with the new $5 o-ring from the dealer, I have yet to see any sign of trans fluid in the past 24 hours.

Several days later, plenty of warm ups and cool downs and not a drop of fluid!

I can't tell you how pleased I am that a $5 o-ring was able to remedy this issue. Always a good reminder that it isn't worth worrying over a $3k trans job until you've eliminated the small things.

Lebaowth,

I have symptoms of a leak in the same spot as your photos show...and it looks like the metal line into the transmission and next to the sensor is leaking.

Can you tell me how you did this...did you need to drain the transmission first, or were you able to quickly swap the o-right part?

Easiest repair I've ever done on my car... Unscrew the bolt next to the leak and that line will wiggle out a bit. Then remove the old o-ring with me a pair of tweezers. Put the new o-ring where the old one was, reinsert the tube, and screw that bolt back in...
