Hello all,

I have a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T.
I have problems when starting the car, sometimes it starts instantly, but most of the times I have to try 5 or 6 times for it to start. I took it to many shops but non of them could find the problem. Some said that it was the problem with the clutch position sensor, I replaced that but still it was the same.

Here is a video of that problem ( this is not my car, but my car has the identical problem)

Please if anyone had similar problems or knows how to fix it tell me!

Thank you in advance!!

Make sure you are getting spark and that your fuel pressure is where it needs to be. Make sure you can hear the pump wurring up when you turn the key to the 2nd position and that the fuel filter is not clogged.

Check your fuel pump and fuel level sensor.
For fuel pump listen to the sound of it.
For level sensor, remove the rear seat and verify the wires. here's how mine looked and gave me great head ache before I found the culprit.

Sergio, were you also having starting problems? Were the wires on the fuel level sensor bad or loose/corroded?

Yes I had
Sometimes the engine would start on one turn (1 second on position III), sometimes it acted as if the tank was dry. It was really sporadic. Very very random.
I checked all the fuses, relays etc. It was when I removed the rear seat to check the actual cables and connectors that I noticed these burnt spots. They were on the fuel level sensor. So I replaced the sensor. And it was done!!

The picture is that of the level sensor, rear seat, behind the driver.

You need a tool to open the the hub. See this;

If it comes to that let me know I will add detail. :D
