1998 S70 no PVC nipple? (possible early replacement head)

Hey guys, ran into a strange problem today and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it. By the way, this is a 1998 Volvo S70 Naturally Aspirated. So when I purchased the car (on the cheap) I noticed that the PCV hose that runs under the spark plug cover and into the head was not routed as such; Just sort of dangling on top of the spark plug cover emitting fumes. It looked like it had been torn off so I went to the junk yard to get a replacement hose. I found an 850 With the same set-up and removed the hose and went home to replace the one on my car. Upon removing the spark plug cover I notice that the nipple for the hose to fit on is not present on my car. I was almost certain the 850 had pretty much the same set up as the S70. Is there something I'm missing here or is it possible that someone replaced the head with one that does not have a fitting for the PCV system? Sorry if this was hard to understand, I'm new to the Volvo world but any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have an early head on your engine 93 and maybe 94 did not have the hose nipple on top of head.

I suspected it may have been a different head.. Now this begs the question: What do I do about this? The vehicle won't pass emissions with crank fumes being fed into the atmosphere. Are there any mechanical dangers to having this older head on a newer motor? Has anyone ever heard of something like this?

Best idea I can think of is to epoxy a connecting tube to the oil fill cap so that you can connect the PVC tube. You will have to remove it to add oil, but hopefully that isnt often.

I'm wondering how this all fit together. All of the early model heads that I have seen had intake and exhaust ports that were shaped differently than the later models.

Interesting. Care to elaborate on the epoxy process? Is this something that has been done before? Is there an accepted method of doing this?

This isn't a great picture but I think it should get my point across. As you can see, the PCV hose is present and routed correctly up until it reaches the underside of the spark plug cover. No Nipple to fit it on, anywhere.

I'm stumped myself. The only diagnostic codes that are present is an evap code and a system too rich code. Other than that, the car runs/idles fine. I'm not super familiar with these motors so I'm not sure what to make of this set up.

I'm thinking get a spare oil filler cap, drill a hole in it, and epoxy (two part adhesive) a tube to vent your cylinder head to that hose. You might have to extend the hose with a nipple and more hose to reach.

It would be much cheaper than the right cylinder head, Shirley.

Would the heat inside the head be safe for the hose to rest in?
