I recently bought a used 2006 XC90 V8, with 90,000 miles. I love it. I love everything about it.
My wife, however, is the primary driver of "The Coach" (She is the queen, after all.) She would really like to be able to play Pandora over the car stereo. But, there is no cassette deck to use ye olde cassette adapter, and the stupid FM transmitter dongles don't work worth a damn with the antenna in the roof.
We have inquired to multiple shops about having an auxiliary jack installed. We have received varying answers. But they say that the 2006 radio is special somehow, and that there is this mysterious expensive part, plus installation, that is required to make it work. We have been quoted anywhere from $300 to over a thousand.
I don't mind paying money for a properly done job, but this whole "06's are special" thing just reeks of them trying to scam me out of my money.
Surely someone here on the all-knowing Matthews Volvo Site can shed a little insight into the situation.
Thanks in advance.
Ben

Maybe you're able to stick a GromAudio device in it? That way you can get iPod/Bluetooth/USB connectivity (and even 3.5mm) to the factory radio and retain the steering wheel controls.
Not cheap, but here it is: http://bit.ly/1dWVuLh

See my thread on the 816 radio. You will have to open up the radio and look for Zleft and right channel input points on the circuit boards of course.
