1995 850 Base HVAC Blower only works on High

Hello everyone, I don't post often but do a lot of reading and searching. This site has helped me fix many issues and I am truly thankful to everyone. My car developed a new issue that I think I know the answer to but I am looking for conformation.

My 850 has the MCC with settings 01234 for the fan speed. If I start with the fan in the "0" position and move the switch to increase the speed I get nothing until the "3" position. At that setting I get the same speed as setting"4". I can than move the switch the down to "1" and the speed never changes.If I move to "0" the fan motor is shut off.

The Heat settings as well as the AC settings are working with out a problem. I have checked the fuse under the hood that corresponds to "Fan 123, AC and something else", and fuse is good. I believe that my culprit is the resister. Is there anything else I can check? The resister is pretty pricey and I would very much like to eliminate all other possibility's first.

You've covered your bases. It's the resistor...the other fan speeds (1-3) are controlled by the resistor; fan speed 4 bypasses it and runs it full-blast.

See if you can find a working used one for cheap. Check out EBay or some of the used Volvo parts websites on the banner at the top of the page.
