'03 C70 Master Window Switch

Post by robotarmy »

Hi,

Intermittently, my drivers side window does not go down all the way when I press the button to lower it or the button to operate all four windows. I removed the switch and cleaned the contacts per the post I found in this forum, reassembled the switch and I still have the problem with the driver side window. Is this a symptom of a bad window lift mechanism, or is it still a bad switch? The WL motor is $425. The replacement switch is only $125.

Thanks,

Paul
Cheers,

Fish

With the aid of a meter it should be relatively easy to pinpoint which connector points to the power side and switched side of the switch. This way no guessing

By using the ohms range find out which connector goes to each side of the switch's copper contacts. Then by pulling the switch actuator upwards you can test the continuity. If continuity is anything upward of 0.5 ohms you still have a dirty or possibly bent switch contact. If continuity is poor or the meter reads above 0.5 ohms then you have a poor switch.

Dirty switch contacts probably don't apply with this car.

Later P80 based convertible models have a switching system that's
very different from all of the other P80 cars. The window motor aren't
actually run by through the switches. There's a master control module
that runs all the windows. The switches in the car just "talk" to the module.

If your windows are doing anything at all when you flip a switch, then the
switches are working. Cleaning should never be needed on any of the newer
'verts because there's no significant juice running through the contacts.

There may be a module issue, but I'd be more inclined to think that you have
a window lift/regulator problem. Best way to find out would be to open that
door up and have a look around. This will also allow you to unplug the motor
and connect 12 volts directly, enabling you to observe the window in operation.

BTW the module is under the dash

If your window moves but not all the way then your issue is not with driver's window switch set or with the window module.
Try rolling down the window and then apply pressure down at front and then at rear to see if the window shifts and then goes on down.
You could have a window lift/regulator problem.

This is the Vida parts list. If Vida is correct the window switch is shared with earlier P80s up to 2005 for convertibles.

You could throw in that $28 switch off Amazon as a tester
