Volvo and Moose (real moose)

Post by matthew1 »

Camping 5 days ago, on our way back into the campground a ranger stopped us and warned us not to get near two young bulls. I photographed them from a distance, quietly.

More dangerous than a mountain lion. More dangerous than a bear. Not quite as dangerous as a mountain lion riding a bear.

It's good to see some pics of a Volvo getting used. I want to see more pics of people's rides out on trips. Trips to the mountains, trips to the beach, trips to the grocery store.

Puma, more dangerous than a puma. But yea, dangerous.

(For those of you following along, the ranger said the moose is the most dangerous animal in Colorado, to humans. More than bears or big cats.)

Obviously not Swedish moose or they would have jumped in front of your 850.

I was not aware moose were so dangerous to humans. I was aware that their aggression is WAY ramped up during mating season but not generally offensive to humans. Of course I don't know when moose mating season is either.

Thanks for sharing! I know they can get hostile at times, on hunting trips to newfoundland I have seen them chasing after people's dogs  .

LA.S., sorry for the late reply.

Yes, they knew we were there. I was shooting from 100 yards/m+, and being very quiet. Nobody was outside their tents, or making any sounds.

[Deity] help me if we were going to do anything more to let them know our presence. The park ranger gave us a strong warning about approaching the bulls, as we returned to the campground, and he was adamant. He said they are extremely dangerous to humans, and would not hesitate to maul somebody, especially in this circumstance (young, male).

The only animal the park ranger feared more is a mother moose with her calves. Not to belabor the point, but according to this ranger, there is no animal you should take more care to avoid -- rattlesnake, bear, mountain lion etc.

(No Ferraris were harmed in the making of these photos.)
