motronic 4.3 to 4.4 swap, potential to damage ECU!!

Post by RyanT5 »

Hi, a girl in my area contacted me about a couple of things on her 97 850 GLT. I have a stock motronic 4.4 ecu from a 98 s70 t5 at my house and was wondering if I would be able to replace her m4.3 with my m4.4
I wasn't sure if this could cause any problems or if it would only benefit her, im not a huge ecu guy and don't want to cause any issues with her car. If you have any insight please let me know. Thanks!

There is an overall compatibility issue between the 4.3 and the 4.4 due to a difference in the wiring harness design, even though the connection is identical. I believe interchanging one for the other will cook the climate control brain, although I don't recall if it is 4.3 to 4.4 which does it, or vice-versa.

There is good information from ARD about converting, but it requires reprogramming.
