Non-functioning single CD player in factory radio

Has anybody ever attempted to replace the single cd player unit in a SC-815 or 816?

Is it even possible to obtain a replacement player as a stand alone part?

Have you tried a lens-cleaning disc?

Mine has pushed the inevitable back for years, but a year ago even this stopped working.

$7.42 Memorex lens cleaner on Amazon in case you want to give it a shot.

I was replacing like for like. But for the loose dash that causes certain speakers to come on and off, the factory SC-816 is fine. Since I have nothing to compare it to, I couldn't say whether it is better than lesser Volvo radios.

you can consult a dealer or a manufacturer, tell them the size of your radio and the year of the car . they will help you find a radio fitting your car .and the installation guide is ready from them

Clean the lens with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work there are many 816s for sale out there. I have some if interested.

I must have been unclear. In my original message I was seeking information about the availability of a constituent component of the SC-815 and 816 HUs -- i.e., the single CD player. What I had hoped to do was open up my existing unit and actually replace just the failed CD player, much as one might add or subtract a CD drive from a personal computer. I guess my original message was not clear enough, but alas, it does not appear anyone has done this or that that single component of the integrated headunit is available.

I have since moved on and swapped out the entire unit so as to preserve radio, etc.
