rear seat removal

Does anyone have any insight as to how to remove the rear seat backs in a '97 850 wagon? I've removed the pad on the outboard side, there is a clip on the pivot retainer that I've pulled up and out. It looks as though the seat back, pivot pin and retainer should just lift straight up, but it will move only an 1/8".

After you have pulled the red catches (both sides) up, fold the cushion back as far as it will go (not towards the front- the other direction, like you're putting it back into place), and then pull the seat cushion straight up and out.

Not the seat cushions, the seat backs! the part that one's back rests against when one's bottom is on the seat cushion. The seat back in a wagon tips forward to allow large items to be carried in the car.

If it is heated disconnect the wiring.

Remove the side padding and undo the seat belt anchorage bolts in the floor. Remove the anchorages.

Release the catch and fold the seat back forward very slightly.

Remove the clip securing the backrest mounting to the wheel arch by pressing it in at the bottom with a screwdriver and lifting it up with a second screwdriver.

Press the backrest out and pull it up in its outer mounting. Lift it up and out of the car.

Sounds complicated but is easier if you have the instructions at the seat.

I've tried this, (read first post) I can get the clip out but the seat will not lift up and off the mounting (pivot) point. Am I missing something?

My apologies, I did not read it fully. Actually I wish I had, I would have saved a lot of typing.

I don't think you are missing anything, it should pull out at that point. Mine did but it did take some effort.

I had another go at this, I was missing the last step, "press the seatback out". The seat pulls toward you (outboard) and THEN lifts up. Many thanks for the help.

Sorry for missing the "back," and answering for the padded seat. I'll leave it like it is in case someone else stumbles into this thread and it helps them get the seat "bottom" out. Glad you figured it out anyway.

Been way to busy to stay too active on here lately. Past 9pm when I got home tonight from work...being a principal of a school can suck sometimes.

I am having the same problem. I have removed the clips and have attempted to pull outboard on the rear seatrests and then up on the outboard side, but nothing is moving. Is this the right way to pull?

I have been trying to remove the back seats from my 1999 V70 for the last week. The only peice of information that was missing for the last 6 days was "the seat pulls towards you (outboard) and then lifts up"
Next time I will leave the year of the vehicle out of my question.
