2000 S80 Fuel pump and related issue

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 Fuel pump and related issue

Post by Volvonick »

Hey guys. I just bought my first Volvo. A 2000 S80 with 120xxx miles for $1300. I thought I was getting a pretty sweet deal considering the condition is pretty great other then some wear and tear and one dent, and it has no mechanical issues. Other then the smell of gasoline in the car.

After I purchased it and got it home I changed the fuel filter thinking that was the problem. After I changed the filter I must have knocked the hose that was connected to the pump and made it leak even worse. I did some research and found out about the fuel pump recall. So I went ahead and took out the back seat and sure enough the pump is leaking. I am going to post some photos but I have a real question that hopefully someone knows the answer too.

So here is my question. I already ordered the fuel pump and I am just waiting on that to come in. My question is in the first photo. The gunk covered hole that I am assuming goes into that gas tank. When I lifted up the seats it was just as you see it in the photo. Should I plug this before I put it back together or is this a breather hole? Also if anyone has any tips or heads up before I remove the pump please let me know.

Well it turns out the hole is just a drainage hole. I replaced my fuel pump and put her back together and she is running great! I know no one responded to this thread but I did find plenty of useful advice in the forums so for thanks for that!

If anyone has any questions about the replacement process Id be more then happy to try and help. I used a big pair of channel locking plyers to remove the lock ring. It was an experience.

Thanks a lot man! She is very "6xy" and I will definitely be taking care of her as best I can. There is something about this car I appreciate very much.
