2004 XC70 blower motor running

Post by das1997 »

I have been researching this issue but don't really seem to find the exact problem. I use the ac on auto all the time. Recently I have been noticing the blower not shutting off and seen some post state that's a function. Mine was running for about 45 minutes while eating lunch and I eventually pulled the fuse.

The fan control speed will work when I first start the car but after it gets warm the manual speed selector for the blower does not change the speed or shut it off even though the light indicated amber off and the fan continues to run.

If I buy a new fan blower, will that come with the resistor control or should I buy the resistor by itself and see if it is that first. I also checked for a filter under the hood but there is no filter. I can see the vent door open and close. Is that where the filter is or is it under the dash as I have seen YouTube videos showing that on some years. If it is under the hood then I should buy the adapter and filter?

If I have missed the post on this please direct me and I will research it.

Thank you for any help. This is my first volvo and I am loving the wagon.

They are sold separately unless you buy the whole assembly from a recycling yard.

Here is an example;

Normally they are changed in pair. If a fan motor is drawing too much current (seized bushings or bad brushes) it can burn the fan control module .

New parts suppliers;

Here is the procedure on how to replace it;
