1994 850 warm/hot firing problem during start

Post by sbricker »

I am trying to help my Dad get his "workhorse" daily driver repaired for him. It has left him stranded a few times lately. The car will not fire sometimes when it is very warm outside or after it has been running for a while. In the morning when it is cooler outside the car starts and runs fine. He is a teacher and when he is leaving school in the evening (still hot outside) it will not fire. The starter is working fine and there is plenty of battery strength. He says he smells fuel but it will not fire. This has also happened when he stopped for fuel during the drive home and the engine was at normal operating temp.

I have not checked the car myself yet, but will this weekend and I am trying to research it in advance.

Thanks

It is often a failing coolant temperature sensor that gives hot start problems

Excess fuel floods the engine when hot...does the tailpipe have a fuel odor to it?
