I haven't had this problem yet myself, but based on age of my car (2002) figure I might as well do this now, before the battery leaks/destroys the module. This post was an amazing help. I have a 2004 XC90 that showed an alarm system code a few months ago. I ignored it because the alarm is not important to me. I rarely use the sunroof, but when I recently tried, I found that it did not work. I also found that the fuse for the alarm system was blown. I found from this and other forums that a siren module malfunction also causes a sunroof problem.

I bought a used module and followed these instructions to replace it. The sunroof now works. I didn't check the alarm...but, I really don't care.

The instructions were excellent. The tip about using the drill bit to turn the screw holding the module bracket was particularly useful.

A few comments. After drilling out the rivets, the new 3/16" X 1/4" rivets did not consistently grip the holes, perhaps because they were slightly enlarged by the 3/16" drill. If possible, this could be solved by placing washers at the back side of the rivet repair. However, I saw no way to get washers on the backs of the rivets. So, I replaced some of the rivets with 1/4" diameter plastic auto body fasteners purchased at an auto parts store.

Did this today...... no pics sorry :( - mine was fully worse than these tho - battery connector had fallen/corroded off, as had battery terminals ( the liquid ran down them to the PCB!
Ordered this in hope it fitted/ I could make it fit....

Cut the plug off it and stripped the wire.
Cleaned the PCB with the wifes toothbrush ( shhhhhh lol, its lost! ) and some electraclean.
Stuck the new battery on with just the wires soldered to the board.
Silicone covered the board around the terminations - stop it doing the same again I hope!
Siliconed the edges of the cut box.
Gaffa taped the box.
Reinstalled........
Started the car - alarm system service required noooooooooo!!!!
Went back an hour later, drove the car 7 times this afternoon..... touch wood no errors!!!!
Maybe the origonal one was until the battery charged? god knows.... but a massive thanks - worked a treat :D

Forgot to say..... me being me.... a lazy git - I did not disconnect the battery as I was doing a lot of work on the car at the same time the silicone was drying - ie auto box flush which I used the pump for etc.
No errors came up other than the air MAF and turbo because they were not plugged in.
also in future - to fine tune the auto gearbox oil..... use an oil can and the dipstick hole with some fishtank air pipe lol, saves a lot of time/hassle :D

Thanks for the write-up... I have removed the siren module from my car today only to discover exactly same as has been described here. I have ordered this battery: GP320BVH6A6 Google it... costs about £7.00

I hope that the fact that I did NOT disconnect the battery when doing this and that I drive it with the siren removed is not going to cause problems when I re-install it. Would anyone be able to say for sure?

Was able to get the security bolt off using only a needle-nose vice grips, so for once things went better than expected. Didn't need to bother drilling bolt etc out.

My siren was not bad, but based on the age of my car (2002) thought I should do this before winter. Well here is a shot of the battery:

As you can see it was starting to leak, so it's well worth the effort even if you don't yet see signs of the errors! The old battery cable/connector was corroded internally, I think some battery acid was starting to leak down the wires. The batteries in the link given have separate +/- connectors, so you can make them fit easily. Just be sure to mark which pin is +/- on the original module! Here is final wiring:

For cutting siren open just use a hacksaw, I found that much easier than dremel actually. Just make a straight cut into the plastic where black/grey meet. Don't need to go too deep, just keep going around until it pops apart.

I DID NOT disconnect battery when doing it, seems fine. Note the instructions of VIDA simply say to 'disarm alarm' before doing this work (e.g.: unlock car).

2005 S60 2.5T

Bought the new module online for $240. Followed the directions. Plugged the battery back in and tested before riveting the fender back. Locked and unlocked with the key 3 times. Good as new. Highly recommend getting the clip to hold the fender in place. Used a new vise grip to remove the tamperproof bolt and caught the edge (about 1mm thick). Unscrewed just fine.
