98 S70 GLT Time to scrap or sell, unsure what to do with it

My 98 S70 GLT has finally bled enough from my wallet. Currently it has ~184,000 miles, lots of suspension problems, some body damage, and the ignition tumbler assembly is broken leaving the steering wheel locked. The engine seems to be in ok condition. Drives good, still has lots of pep.

I have never sold a car, so I don't know where to start. Is this worth trying to sell to someone for parts, is it worth more to scrap? Help!

It is worth more to sell as a running car (1500 USd) needs work than scrap (350 USd)

Numbers are my coarse estimates.

Scarp value is around $0.10/lb for entire cars.

Don't list it as a parts car because you will scare away a lot of people. A running car with a good motor and tranny is not a parts car unless the rest of the car is not drivable.

If you want to maximize value, if the car can pass inspection, do that. I find in my area that is basically a "come buy me now" sign, as people won't buy a really old car that doesn't have a recent inspection.

List it slightly higher than what you want for it because people will want to negotiate down, and they seem to feel like they are getting ripped off even if they are getting a good price at it's posted amount.

You can always lower the price but I have only been successful in raising the price once (rare).

Just keep in mind if you go too high, it will stagnate, and people like me watch for stagnant sales and know how to negotiate them down to below what you would've gotten for had you priced it fairly to begin with . By that time once you've sat on the car that long, most people just give up and want it gone.
