Hi,

I used to run VIDA on VMWare without any problem, then I had a spare old PC, I installed XP on it and VIDA now runs fine on that PC too, it is a dedicated desktop though, so I will have to use again VMWare to be mobile.
I wish Volvo would develop VIDA for Android, it would be much easier.

Regarding Dice, I'll see around, as I expected many people had issues with AliExpress, I believe Amazon is more reliable if you have to request a refund.

Thank you for having shared your opinions on this matter.

Does the 97 940 have an OBD-II connector for DiCe connection?
95 was last year in regular US sales. The last ones here had no VIDA applicability.
I was unaware Canada imported any after that sale stop date.

Yes, it does and yes you are right, not in Canada, I have imported this car from Italy, it is a special series and it was discontinued end of 1997.

Actually, I want to set up a separate thread as I suspect to be one of the few if not the only one in NA to drive such a model

Hi folks,

I got the Chinese DICE, I downloaded the image you suggested on top of this thread and opened it in VMware, everything is good.
Now, when I plug in the DICE to the USB port of my PC, without 12V power, I see the two blue LED lighs on for firmware and Vehicle interface statuses, however it fails to find its USB drive.
I tried to point the search to the 2013A CD I received with DICE, but could not find it either.

Is it because the image I downloaded is 2012B VIDA and not 2013A??

Also, to power DICE I read 9-18V 12VA - Do I get this once I plug in the OBD-II connector?

Thank you

Yes the Dice is powered by the OBDII connector and you won't be able to select it under Communication Device until it's plugged in to the vehicle and the auto instal of drivers l occurs after the Dice unit is powered.

If your Dice is like mine it has a power socket on the body where you can independently power it.

The point is the USB driver, that should be taken without being plugged in, but it does not find it, probably because the image is 2012B based and the DICE is based on 2013A, but I may be wrong here.
The driver should be installed with the CD, so I will have to go through the whole process again, install XP on my VM and then the CD I got.

I thought the image would have saved me time and was hoping for it, instead, I have to do it again from scratch.

I'll come back later with the results.

If you are using the VMWare image, you've got to make sure the USB connection has passed through to the VMware instance. Once VMWare is running & DiCE plugged in, goto 'VM -> Removable Devices' and there should be something about the DiCE. Make sure there is a check-mark beside it.

You don't need drivers installed in your host computer in theory with the VMWare image.

I updated the driver for the CP2102 USB to UART Bridge controller driver and now the driver is accepted, no yellow marks in the device manager, however, dice is not detected.
During the last two days I tried everything, I never saw anything different other then the 2 blue LED lights.

Probably DICE is defective, it appears to be frequent, at this point I will have to contact the supplier.

Thanks

When I purchased a faulty one a couple of years ago the giveaway is the absence of the orange communication light on the unit.

Is this the case with yours?
