Completed dash removal to fix annoying squeaks!

hello all,
i just thought that i would let everyone know that i just finished the ever so feared dash removal to fix the broken mounting tabs. I have had this car since may and i have never had a problem as annoying as this one, every little bump in the road and i would hear clicking and squeaking noises. Removing the dash was kind of a pain so i am just letting everyone know that if they are having similar problems and take on this job i am here to help with any questions you all may have just reply to this or email me at [email protected]. hopefully none of you have this problem but i am sure that you know it if you do.

If your evaporator hasn't been replaced by now you should have replaced it when your dash was apart as it WILL fail at some point soon enough.
All the labor was in the dash R&R

My wife hits every pot hole, bump, and man hole in the city. Our dash is noisy as hell. I also just orderd the odometer repair kit so I figured I tackle the whole job once the kit arrives. Thanks for the offer to help, I may be contacting you.

Byb, the by, do you know if the dash needs to be removed to replace a burned-out fuel guage light on the instrument panel? My fear is that it cannot be accessed from below and for a silly little bulb the whole dash needs to come apart.

You can lift up that side of the dash to get the instrument panel out. www.volvospeed.com maitenance section has a write-up on how to do this.

I have been around volvospeed bay 13 looking for that and I missed it. even searched MVS and did not find an answer. After you sent me back there I looked more closely. Never thought it would be in the trim section.

Not so bad. Very do-able. Just another thing to do.

Ah, the trim section. I would have missed that too. I knew it was there in Bay13, but didn't know the exact URL or else I would have posted it too. Anyway, good find and yes, it's doable!

There's really no right "way" to do this. Look around in Bay13 (in the same area as the link above) and you'll find in the AC section the repair for the evaporator. The first part of those instructions are on how to get the cover off. Once it's off, then use felt pieces around the edges and areas you suspect squeeks. Then put the cover back on. Others may give you more information on where exactly to put the pieces and if there are other types of materials that also cut down or get rid of squeeks. Good luck!

i just fixed an annoying dash squeak in my v70r today that i've been chasing for days.. i tried silicone spray, 303 protectant, you name it, nothing helped. but tightening the bolts that secure the dash assembly to the firewall made it louder, so i knew i was close... (i had to replace the entire dash assembly on my 850 because those bolt brackets on the dash were broken)
...anyways, i took out the bolts and sprayed some of my new favorite product (white lithium grease in a spray can) deep into the bolt holes. went inside and wiggled the dash around. re-installed the bolts (more grease).

now it's quiet as a mouse!
