Hi, I just saw Volvo 144, now I am trying to contact the current owner to ask him to sell it, but I was wondering what should I check in this vehicle. I don´t know the year (I assume 1970), mileage, trans type, and so on; I just know that the car is in good shape inside and outside.
On the other hand, I am worried about the parts, is there any Volvo parts website that still have new OEM parts for this model?
I hope classic Volvo owners can help me!
Thanks!
Thinking buying a Volvo 144?

140 series are good cars. there are several different engine/trns/fuel system combinations but all relatively simple and parts ar still available thru IPDUSA and fcpeuro to name a few. do a quick google search to see the difference in styling and maybe that will help determine what year it is you're looking at. The engines are very durable as aremost of the transmissions. i swapped out the beat down automatic bw35 tranny for an m40 4 speed, both stock for the car. they also came with an m41 4 speed with overdrive, which is the best highway tranny. they're a lot of fun even though they're pretty slow and don't get very gas mileage.
1994 850 na green 187k on body, 275k on motor(backwards?), unrestricted airbox, 960 TB, persus wheels, Lowered, IPD poly upper and trans mounts.
1974 144 k-jet m40 satin black, 250k on body, 25k on rebuilt motor(running...usually)

Mine wasn't a column shift so I didn't run into any trans tunnel issues. You may have some issue due tot the fact your car was not originally equipt with manual. You may have to cut a hole in you trans tunnel depending on if your manual tranny has a short throw or a long shifter. just make sure you add pilot bearing when you put the clutch and flywheel on.
