Volvo V70 2005 2.5T
Smoke coming up from dipstick when stick pulled up. I replaced the PCV trap and necessary hoses. The bung going into the pan was clogged up and the trap was clogged with oil sludge. I assured that the lower passage was cleared out before reassembly. I cleaned the bleeder screw and ring of what went goes into the bottom of the intake manifold. I don't know what that line is, it is a 17mm bolt that is similar to a brake bleed bolt. It bolts in the underside of the intake manifold on the passenger side foward of the thermostat hosing.
So, after doing this, I still have smoke coming up from the dipstick. Internet searches are pointing towards the lines going to the PTC being clogged. Well, I cannot locate the PTC valve. I need a picture of where it is. Also andy advice about what other avenues I should be pursuing.

Valve stem seals bad - you'll see a puff of smoke when starting up, and smoke under acceleration when it's really bad. I was thinking cylinder blow-by, where gases get in the crankcase and the PCV can't keep up. Specific to high mileage engines. Only way to diagnose is compression test.

How did you check the PCV oil drain was unblocked, the very end of the drain channel turns upwards through about 160 degrees and is very difficult to clear out without dropping the sump pan. To check if it is clear I attach a length of 5/8" hose to the port on the engine block then try to blow through it, if you hear oil bubbling in the sump the port is clear, if you can't blow through it the port is still blocked - Mike

The PTC valve is down near the turbocharger. Follow the hose out of the air cleaner that dives down toward the rear of the car, the PTC is attached at the base of this fat hose, on top. Look for an electrical connector and a couple of other hoses around it.

2001 v70xc 2.4t ........ My car went to main dealer and they told me smoke coming from dipstick, ,.............i needed a new engine, they even skimmed head only to find gases still getting into coolant system, best of luck as mine had only done 86k at the time and now is having a new block fitted
I have had my engine replaced with the 3rd lump, main dealer gave new engine 4 oil changes and today after 65 miles it blew up on the fast lane of the 4 lane M25 in the UK, they changed me £3000 for the original replacement and have never fixed the issue, they then put my 2yr old son, and my wife and I in grave danger allowing this vehicle on the road, should they replace the car ?, it was bought privately but has been in the garage longer than I have driven it. They originally changed the ETM, the wiring harness, the coil packs, the cam belts and all fluids drained at the proper temperatures. how can Volvo let this happen, we could have been killed today !!
Charged*, also they skimmed the head and found warped cylinder bores, they fitted 2nd engine, it blew up then they fitted a 3rd and it almost killed my family and i! i have never known of such catastrophic mistakes such as this madness..........never buying another one ........ unless its a mint 850 t5r with full history
