I am still having an on going issue with very reliable working of the central locking on my 850 estate.
I have noticed something else which appears to be connected but I don't know why??? If the central locking does not work, the interior courtesy lights do not work! If the central locking does work, the interior lights work!!! Very strange, any thoughts, as its driving me mad now!

1996 Volvo 850 courtesy light / central locking issues
I just recently fixed an issue with upper interior lights not working, along with the delay lights. They would turn on manually but nothing when door was opened. The lower courtesy lights worked just fine. Also could not program the remote fob. Driver door would lock but not unlock. Strange issues and had trouble making sense out of what was wrong. In the wiring diagram I found relay 205-206 were common to all the issues. It is found under the dash toward the firewall on driver side. Right above where your left foot would rest. I disconnected the negative side of the battery. Then reached up and to my surprise it was a bit loose along with some of the other relays . I reseated all of them and stuffed some foam in to help hold them in. Reconnected battery and all my electrical issues were fixed. YEA !Took me about a week of tracing wires and reading the schematic.
Suggest you look at the relays and see if any of them are partially loose or just try reseating them.. 205-206 is a double wide relay compared to the others..good luck
