2001 S60 Time to Walk Away?

We have had this car for about 3 years it has 120k miles, i have in that time fixed the following... (not including normal wear items)

New brake booster (was leaking and hissing)
New Front turn signal sockets
New Spring Seats
New Strut Mounts
New Sway Bar End Links (kind of normal wear item, but it seems to eat them too fast)
New MAF Sensor
New ETM (contactless)

I have noticed a few other things i have not had a chance or the desire to address, like the alarm system "Service Required" message and a rattle in the sun roof.

It's not like the list is really awefull, but it has been VERY steady amount of issues.

Judging by this list of what has already been fixed, how much more is likely to need replaced soon? not normal wear stuff, i realize that would be a pretty open ended question. More like is there many other poor designs and known bad parts that i am likely to need to replace. IE. the ETM.

I am getting ready to do a timing belt and waterpump and am thinking maybe i should ditch the thing while it still runs

This car has DIFFINETLY had more issues that any car we have ever owned, i am compaireing this to a 94 Volvo 940 with 250k miles almost no issues and a toyota 4runner with 330k miles origional engine/tranny.

You didn't mention much of issues besides regular maintenance. Booster is a failure, ETM is a doom. What was wrong with MAF? Bulb sockets can be cleaned and greased. Front-end is a regular maintenance every 100..125k miles.

What about transmission? Is it flaring?

Your alarm system problem is the siren module that is mounted in front of the right front tire under the fender liner. The battery inside the module is mounted above the circuit board. After ~10-12 years the battery leaks acid which drips on the circuit board. I bought a used module from Vo Vo in Michigan for something like $75. The Volvo dealer wanted $300+ for it.

To be honest I think you've been quite lucky...still plenty of "common" faults left I'm afraid...on the positive side they are a great drive. With the V70 I just keep it because nothing else gets close in terms of load lugging capability. I've spent about 3,000 this year on servicing and fixing stuff....still a few things which could go wrong. What I would say is that the bodies on these cars are very strong so maybe just look at everything else as a replaceable item. To be honest few other cars could get past 150,000 miles so hard to call them unreliable.
