1999 S70T5 Recirc Motor

Well this weekend is the dreaded "replace the dash mounts in the s70!" I am getting help with it from another member here and am very excited to finally have a quiet car. My recirc motor has been on it its way out, as there is a lot of clicking and clacking coming from it, and also it changes from recirc to fresh air all the time without warning. Half the time it is on recirc the air is coming from outside. I figured while I have the dash out, it will be time to do the recirc. I am going to go get one from junkyard, any write-ups on best way to take it out, and what exactly to look for?

Also... I often have a knocking sound coming from more center of dash, almost like a little man is in there and tapping on plastic. This is a different sound than the usual recirc motor trying to engage its the weirdest little tapping sound. Wondering if anyone has any idea what it is and if its related to the recirc motor. Thanks guys!

Recirc motors seldom fail, it is the plastic arm that can break. In your case, it seems to be working and probably a little silicone spray to lube it up a bit might help. When the interior is very hot, recirc will close to keep out the hot air and help the interior cool down with the AC. But I think it may be programmed to open every few minutes to allow fresh air into the cabin.

The knocking sound could be a broken damper, where it attaches to the damper motor. The only way to find out is to remove the motor and look.

The software indeed does all kinds of things beyond the command of the front panel, including periodically bringing in fresh air in recirc mode.

If you sit in your car for an hour after using the AC, the fan will kick on and dry the evap core on the 1999+ models
