Hi,
I have a Volvo V70 in which the head unit was completely failed, i don not want a aftermarket unit, to me they just look wrong, so i went to the local breaker and bought a replacement SC-901. I have tested the unit out by using the demo mode (hold 6 on power up) all works well but when i have gone to the AUS Volvo dealer they need proof of owner ship for both cars, mine is no problems and i have given them the receipt from the breaker and even the slip from the motor authority saying the vehicle is scrapped but they wont accept that unless i can show the breaker owned that car. I have read on these forums their are sites and methods to get it outside the Volvo channel but i cannot find any, if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. BTW I am happy to show the proof of purchase if you feel I am doing something dodgy, I absolutely am not.
Thanks

i have read somewhere that there is a site for radio code searches also but it only relates to Volvo's sold new within North America. (why not world wide?)
i feel for your plight.
It is absolutely ludicrous for any reputable car dealership to resist helping you based on the evidence of ownership of your own vehicle, the car breakers receipt at purchase of the replacement radio. and the motor authorities official vehicle scrapped notice you have submitted.
I frankly consider the dealers actions to be deliberately obstructive.
My advise is to contact Volvo. Head Office direct and report this dealerships actions and supply them with the same evidence you furnished to the dealer you unsuccessfully approached.
I would expect someone there to exibit a common sense attitude to customer service.
It is high time these dealerships were instructed from on high to be more helpful to the owners of 2nd hand Volvos as it can never be a certainty for the radio codes to be passed on with vehicles sold on the market. Replacement 2nd hand Volvo units are commonly fitted to vehicles when the originals fail to operate and repair is uneconomic also.
A realistic standard computer search fee needs to be set also as ripping off customers is also commonplace when this radio code service is offered.
The laugh of all this is nobody pinches Volvo radio units anyway.
